Ask this question to ten web designers and nine will say "depends on requirements, let's get on a call." We find that annoying too. So here are the actual numbers, the same ones we quote our own clients.

The short answer

OptionUpfront costYearly cost afterWho it suits
DIY builder (Wix, GoDaddy etc.)"Free" to ₹3,000₹5,000-15,000 every yearHobby projects, testing an idea
Cheap freelancer₹3,000-8,000UnpredictableHonestly? Nobody. Read below.
Professional freelancer / small studio₹10,000-30,000₹4,000-8,000Most small businesses - shops, clinics, services
Big agency₹50,000-3,00,000+₹15,000+Funded companies, e-commerce, custom software

For reference, our own packages sit in that third row: ₹11,999 to ₹24,999 one-time, with domain, hosting and SSL included for the first year. Not because we are the cheapest, but because that is what an honest 5-8 page business website genuinely costs to build well.

Why the "₹4,999 full website" offer burns you

We rebuild these sites every month, so we know exactly what is inside them. At that price the maths only works if the builder copies a template, skips mobile testing, skips SEO basics, and keeps your domain registered in THEIR name. That last one is the trap - when you want to leave, your own website becomes their hostage. Always ask one question before paying anyone: "Will the domain be registered in my name, with my email?" Watch how they react.

The costs nobody mentions in the quote

  • Domain renewal: ₹800-1,500 per year. Small, but if it lapses, your website and email die overnight.
  • Hosting: ₹2,000-6,000 per year for a typical business site. Anyone charging much more for a 6-page site is padding the bill.
  • Content updates: changed timings, new photos, festival offers. Some builders charge ₹500-1,000 per tiny change. Ask upfront - this is where "cheap" websites become expensive.
  • The rebuild: the biggest hidden cost of a bad website is doing it all again in 18 months. We see it weekly.

What a fair price should include

Whatever you pay, the quote should include all of this in writing: your domain in your name, hosting and SSL, mobile-first design (most of your customers are on phones), WhatsApp and call buttons, an enquiry form, Google Maps, basic on-page SEO, and every login handed over to you at the end. If any of these is an "add-on", the headline price is fiction.

When DIY genuinely makes sense

Being honest: if you just want to test a business idea for three months, a free builder page is fine. The problem starts when a real, running business sits on a yourshop.wixsite.com link with the builder's ads on it - customers notice, and Google barely ranks it. If the business is real, own your website. It is one of the cheapest assets your business will ever buy.

The bottom line

In 2026, a professional small business website in India costs ₹10,000-30,000 upfront and ₹4,000-8,000 a year to keep running. Anything far below that is cutting something you will pay for later. Anything far above needs a very good justification. And whoever you hire - see their actual work first. Ours is right here, live, click everything.
